Nemours Summer Undergraduate Research Program

Nemours Children's Health

A 10-week full-time paid summer research program for undergraduates at four Nemours pediatric sites in Delaware and Florida. Students work on clinical, laboratory, or translational research projects.

Who should apply

Community college and four-year college students, including freshmen and sophomores, who want a funded pediatric research summer in the Mid-Atlantic or the South. The $6,000 scholarship makes it possible to skip a summer job.

Eligibility

  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student at the time of application
  • Minimum 3.2 college GPA
  • Interest in research motivated by problems in pediatric health
  • Available full time, 40 hours a week, for all 10 weeks

What you get

  • 10 weeks full time, roughly late May through the end of July
  • $6,000 scholarship paid in two installments
  • A clinical, laboratory, or translational research project
  • A mentor at a Nemours Children's site
  • Occasional placements at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia for the Delaware site

What the application involves

  • Application form submitted through the Nemours RedCap survey platform
  • Current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from a science faculty member
  • Transcripts; unofficial are accepted
  • Short essay responses
  • Optional supplementary files

Application tips

  • The window is only six weeks and it spans winter break. Ask your science faculty recommender in November, before campus empties out.
  • Recommendation letters have their own later deadline of January 31, so your application can go in first while letters catch up.
  • Name a specific site in your materials if you have a reason. Delaware, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Pensacola all host positions and mentors differ.
  • Frame your essay around a pediatric health problem you care about. That framing is written into the eligibility criteria.
  • Housing and travel are your responsibility, so pick a site you can realistically live near for 10 weeks.

Good to know

Applications go through a RedCap survey linked from the Nemours research education page. Acceptances are announced by March 31.
