Summer Nurse Camp

Puget Sound students considering nursing who want to see what the job actually looks like before committing to a program. It is one week, it costs nothing, and it does not require research experience or a science background.

• Between 16 and 18 years old by the start of camp
• Lives in the Puget Sound area
• Meets Seattle Children's vaccination requirements with documentation
• Able to attend all five consecutive days and arrive on time each day
• Students of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply

• Five days, roughly mid-July, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Clinical observation shadowing nurses in a working pediatric hospital
• Hands-on skills labs practicing nursing skills on models
• Exposure to a range of nursing specialties
• Lunch each day at no cost

• Online application submitted when the window opens at the end of February
• Vaccination documentation meeting Seattle Children's requirements

• Track down your immunization records before applying. Vaccination documentation is required and can take a while to get from a clinic or school.
• Late applications are not accepted, so put the end of February on your calendar the year before you want to attend.
• Perfect attendance is a stated requirement. Check the July dates against family travel before you apply.
• Camp runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and no housing is provided, so plan your daily transportation to Sand Point Way.
• If you get in, use the clinical observation sessions to ask nurses about their actual schedules and training paths. That is the part you cannot get from a website.

Students do not provide direct patient care. Camp is held at Seattle Children's Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle. Applications for the next cycle open at the end of February.
