National Medical Fellowships (NMF) Scholarships & Awards
National Medical Fellowships, Inc.
A long-standing program of need- and merit-based scholarships for students underrepresented in medicine and the health professions. Mostly for medical/graduate health students — a pipeline resource students grow into.
Who should apply
Primarily students enrolled in U.S.-accredited medical and graduate health-professions programs (MD, DO, dental, PharmD, PA, graduate nursing, MSW, and dual-degree) who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to serving underserved communities. NMF is not a high school program — best framed as a pipeline resource students grow into.
Eligibility
- U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or current DACA recipients only (no international students)
- Attend accredited institutions in the 50 states, DC, or Puerto Rico
- Primarily medical students (including dual-degree from year 3); some funds extend to dental, DO, graduate nursing, PA, PharmD, and MSW students, and a few to undergraduates in allied health
- Demonstrated financial need is central
- An umbrella of many named awards, each with its own additional criteria (specific states, demographics, or fields)
What you get
- Cash awards roughly $2,500–$25,000, with at least one designed to cover cost of attendance after other aid
- Some awards renewable (up to 3 or 5 years)
- Mentoring, leadership development, networking, and career support
- Access to NMF's broader education and professional-development programs
What the application involves
- Online portal (Survey Monkey Apply, and Canvas for some); create an account and complete an eligibility form
- Academic transcripts from the most recent semester
- Financial documentation: aid award letters, loan history, Student Aid Reports
- Proof of citizenship/status
- Recommendation letters familiar with your academic work and community service
- If awarded, a biosketch, headshot, and video script may be required
Application tips
- Create your account and complete the eligibility form early to see every opportunity you qualify for.
- Gather financial documents ahead of time — documented need is central to most awards.
- Choose recommenders who can speak to both academics and community service.
- Tailor each application to the specific award's focus (region, field, or commitment to underserved communities).
- Keep citizenship/status documentation ready in accepted formats.
Good to know
NMF is an umbrella organization with many distinct named awards rather than a single scholarship. Awards run in annual cycles (2026 roughly Jan–Feb, Apr–May, Jun–Aug). GPA cutoffs, prompts, and criteria are per-program inside the portal. Contact: scholarships@nmfonline.org.
